MENTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR GEFIL S.R.L. EXTINGUISHERS
The present instructions cover all the technical and administrative actions, including surveillance, for the maintenance of the fire extinguishers in order to keep them in good functioning condition. The purpose of checking, repairing and recharging the fire extinguishers is to keep them in the same technical structure as they were type approved by MIRTEC S.A.
The present instructions apply to all certified Gefil S.R.L. extinguishers.
There is a minimal control that needs to be executed by the owners (end users) of the fire extinguishers, monthly, according to OMAI 135/2023, articles 8 and 9. Meaning:
a) if the extinguisher is located according to the documentation for fire prevention;
b) if the extinguisher is placed in such a way that the markings on the producer’s label are visible;
c) if the access to the fire extinguisher is not blocked or obstructed;
d) if the place where the extinguisher stays is properly marked;
e) if the pressure indicated on the extinguisher’s gauge is in the parameters indicated by the producer (the needle is on the green color);
f) if the extinguisher’s seals exist and are not damaged or broken;
g) if the extinguisher is fully charged (by weighing, maximum every 6 months’ interval, for CO2 extinguishers);
h) If the extinguisher’s checking interval by an authorized company has not expired.
Before the fire extinguishers are given in custody to an authorized company for checking, repairing and recharging, it needs to be licensed by Gefil S.R.L. The extinguisher service licenses are given only by the producer for partner companies, after a yearly audit (inspection) is performed at their workshop/factory.
Executing maintenance works on the fire extinguishers manufactured by Gefil S.R.L. by companies that do not have a valid service license from the producer, leads to the loss of the products’ guarantee and validity.

Once the maintenance works have been finished, the company that provided the services, extends the guarantee of the extinguisher by 1 year, on its own responsibility, and they will stick a small label that proves the checking, repairing or recharging of the fire extinguisher was done. This small label needs to be placed in conformity with OMAI 135/2023, art. 23.
It needs to contain the following info:
- What kind of works were performed on the fire extinguisher (check / repair / recharge);
- Name and address of the company that has done the maintenance;
- Number of the company’s authorization issued by local authorities (IGSU, in Romania);
- The date when the maintenance was executed (month, year);
- The due date for the next maintenance (month, year).
IMPORTANT!
In order for the fire extinguishers not to lose their guarantee and validity, as given by the producer, the maintenance works should be executed only with companies that have a service license from Gefil S.R.L.
The companies that provide services for checking, repairing and recharging fire extinguishers are periodically audited by the producer to see if they respect the maintenance instructions, if they have the necessary tools and means, if they keep the documents imposed by the law (the work registries), if they have qualified personnel, if they respect the detailed working procedures and if they use original components and extinguishing agents.
Following this audit, Gefil S.R.L. releases or renews the extinguisher service license for the respective company. Each document has a certain validity. The authenticity of the document can be checked on the official website: www.geifl.ro. Only the companies listed on the web site have valid service licenses.
For repairing and recharging the fire extinguishers, only original components and extinguishing agents will be used, in conformity with the type approval released by MIRTEC S.A.
If the above points are not respected, the service license will be withdrawn.

- In the situation when identifying the extinguishers is not possible, due to missing original producer’s label, according to OMAI 135/2023;
- In the situation when the cylinder is damaged on more than 1% if it’s surface or has corrosion;
- In the situation when the inner protective layer is seriously damaged (for the water/foam-based extinguishers);
- In the situation when the cylinder is older than 10 years since it’s production date and the end user chooses not to make pressures tests in conformity with ISCIR Norm PT C5 / 2003.
IMPORTANT: according to law 64/2008, article 22: “Executing maintenance works without authorization regarding commissioning, exploiting or changing installations or equipment is considered to be criminal offence and is punished with jail from 2 to 7 years and the forbidding of some rights”
- In the situation when no original components or extinguishing agents for the certified model cand be found for purchase;
- In the situation when the valve’s or the cylinder’s threads are seriously damaged.
